The name apparently comes from the appearance of the unopened flower buds which someone thought looked like drops of chocolate. However, when Cattleya aurantiaca was reclassified as Guarianthe aurantiaca all the resulting cattleya x guarianthe hybrids were reclassified as Cattlianthe (ctt).
